What are Teams Named After

Kingston Town Football Club names our football teams after aircraft to honour and celebrate the aircraft industry in Kingston upon Thames and the legacy it leaves on the local area.

We train at the YMCA Hawker Centre, which was the social and sports club for the Hawker Siddeley/BAe factory which was located adjacent to the sports ground and is named after the aircraft factory.

Kingston upon Thames was a major 20th-century hub for British military aircraft design and manufacturing, spanning from 1912 to 1992, with factories near Canbury Park Road and Ham producing over 45,000 aircraft. The aircraft industry in Kingston produced iconic aircraft including the Sopwith Camel, Hawker Hurricane, Hunter, and the Harrier jump-jet.
